My aunt Carol makes some amazing crocheted doll clothes and they sell on etsy at Toney Treasures....So I thought it would be fun to make some porcelain dolls for us to collaborate on. Made of porcelain, they have painted features, and soon decals.... (click blue letters to go there) Many will come with a handmade antiqued wood stand with copper pole to attach doll to. They each come with a little friend! I think many folks can enjoy them, not just doll collectors. I have one on my desk I fool with constantly! A little teddy bear with big black eyes and wee stitches around its 'joints'. SO find these gals exclusively at Toney Treasures/Etsy online or Splash Gallery in Olympia Washington Photos by Nostalgia Captured

February is here and its time to get ready for Spring Olympia Artwalk! After finding out I was chosen to have my work on the cover of the guide for this years artwalk....I jumped up and down and yelled out! Then I looked at the calendar and freaked! How will I get this piece done in less than two months? Drawing for the last few months I had already 'seen' what show I wanted to create. The pieces littered my sketch book and made their way into my dreams. But this piece for the city would be seen by thousands of people and I had no idea what it would be!. So I just kept drawing and eventually it came out.....'rose' to the surface.... When I got home I began a shopping list and had to go seek out the materials I would need. Dozens of feet of all kinds of copper wire and tubing, wood in all sizes and of course the figures....lots of new porcelain. I also found safety equipment for the braising part with the copper. My eyes seemed to be affected by the bright light so I purchased goggles and a respirator(though I work outside on my picnic table!) I began! Now the porcelain pieces are all fired and tidily in their boxes labeled by my desk.....the copper work for the guide piece is well on its way to being done, and can't wait to see how it will look when finished! Here are just a few pics, more to come! |
