.In my studio I have been working on a mirror series. I call them Fairy Mirrors and they have been a fun way to explore more intricate metal working. Using a mapp gas torch I construct minute details onto tree forms made from copper wire and refer tubing. The Fairy nests above are so tiny the torch melts the wires together with very little flux creating realistic looking nests. On the left you can see the size of my beaded up wires soon to be buds or leaves.
Each tree takes hours and hours to construct, but its very pleasurable! After finishing the tree and ceramic elements, like native american baskets, funguses and other add ons, I place them onto the mirror and wood background. Seemingly floating on the surface, the trees are suspended about 1/4 inch above the glass.
Following the seasons, no two mirrors are alike. Currently I am working on a harvest piece with tiny native baskets filled with dozens of 1/8 inch acorns....this mirror has a single tree thru center of mirror and is about 15 inches tall. Over 200 leaf bits have been added so far. AVAILABLE AT SPLASH GALLERY in late October.
The one below -Spring Fairy Mirror-is SOLD.

This next theme is 'while you were out' and I made a tiny 4x6 piece from metal and porcelain. Come bid on the hundred or so pieces at the college gallery in January. FInal auction day is Feb. 2nd and its a fun race around to watch or participate in! You can get very affordable small artworks and support the Gallery.
